| Briefly about myself | I have
been carrying out survey work on yachts and small commercial vessels for
over 30 years and have been employed in the boating industry since 1971,
mainly being involved in repair and fit out work but also having had some
experience in brokerage. During this time I carried out survey work on behalf
of my employer.
I have been practising as a completely independent self employed yacht surveyor since 1993 and am also an associate member of the Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association with my work accepted by all the major insurance and finance companies. I am a boat owner myself and enjoy both family cruising and round the buoys racing. | Condition Surveys |
These are carried out to determine the overall condition of the vessel, usually prior to purchase or for insurance purposes. In both cases the findings are recorded in a clear and detailed report along with recommendations for the rectification of defects and a conclusion giving an overview of the state of the vessel in relation to its age and the significance of the defects found. In the case of the pre-purchase survey the report is particularly comprehensive giving the purchaser a sound basis for making the decision whether to buy or not and for carrying out possible further negotiations with the vendor. |
| Damage Surveys | These are usually limited to specific areas of the vessel that have sustained damage. The report will detail the damage seen, along with recommendations for repair, and will usually include information relating to the cause of the damage. |
| Valuations | Can be carried out following an inspection or a full condition survey. |
| Consultancy | This heading covers a wide variety of instructions but commonly includes inspection for "Osmosis" and other gelcoat problems, investigations of structural problems and sinkings, overseeing specific items of repair work or preparing reports in the case of disputes. |
